The pumpkin bot is three axis CNC machine built off of a modified ShapeOko 3 platform. Upgraded router, a a specially designed router bit, and careful tweaking of the GRBL platform allow for router moves that carve the pumpkin without turing into pumpkin pie. Additional laser cut lexan protects sensitive parts and electronics from pumpkin shrapnel.
To process the 3d model, I create the desired model in Rhino export as an STL file, then scan the target pumpkin in use photogrammetry. With the two models I import them into the CAM software ( Meshcam ) and plot the router moves from the two files.
